I thought it's amazing, that it only turne out at the end that he just dreaming his fleeing while he is dying. I like the part when it seems that he can hear and notice every single sound. "He noted the prismatic colors in all the waterdrops upon a million blades of grass. The humming of the gnats that danced above the eddgies of the stream, the beating of the drogon-lies' wings, the strokes of the water spiders' legs, like oars which had lifted their boat- all these made audible music." (p.585) I think it's important, because he went through his dream really intensively, and it seems so real for him and even the readers.
Well, at the beginning I got a little confused, but as I read more, I saw the point. I liked how complicated the story was, because the reader cannot really tell, is Farquhar dreaming, is it his imagination, or is the Death really breathing on his neck? And at the end of the story comes "The Surprise", because the resolution is not what we would expect it to be. What I didn't like was the exact description especially at the beginning of the story. At points like that I usually get bored, but the whole story wasn't bad at all!
After reading these comments, I think I understand it a little better. I did not think that he might just be dreaming. I took it very literal but hopefully Mr. Alercon can better help me understand it in class.
I think that the stoy was kinda good. The beginning i really didnt get til i got to the end. Then i found out that he was only dreamin that he was dying, but what a dream. I wonder do ppl have those kinda dream about the way their going to die. His dream seem so real because he was detail with with the death in his dream.Maybe u can help me understand just a little more in class to.
I thought that the story was good, well written.Shows what Mr.Farquhar could have done inorder to escape. Story is also confusing though you have to read the whole thing to understand it. The ending is different from what you would expect it to be...as i thought he was going to get away..guess not.
In the beginning of this story, I was confused and trying to figure out what was going on. After the second part of the story I figured it was a dream. I like all of the descriptions of the dream. the descripton gave alot of great details and the pictures amazed me too.

The story was great. I really liked it but I didn't undertstand why these people had this man hanging. Why were they trying to kill him???? Farquhar was facing death and all he kept thinking about was his wife and child and trying to escape. "As he rose to the surface, gasping for breath, he saw that he had been a long time under water;he was perceptibly farther down the stream-nearer to safety."(pg.586) At this point Farquhar was dreaming that he escaped and was safetly on the other side of the river. At first I didn't know that he was dreaming. I had to read the end over two times, but now I understand. Can we go over the picture on page 587??
I thought this story was really interesting because it was about this man who was hanging over a body of water and was trying to escape. One of the quote that out to me was " to be hanged and drowned, he thought,"that its not so bad;but I do not wish to be shot. No;I will not be shot;that is not fair." I thought that maybe he meant that if he was going to escape he rather drown than to get shot.
This story was really confusing to me because in the begining i REALLY didn't no what was going on.but in order to understand the story you have read the whole thing. At the end you find out that it was just a dream but like towards the middle everything seemed so real!!!!!! I really liked this story because it kept you guessing.
As I read some of my classmates comments, I finally understood the story, because like most students it was confusing in the beginning it was confusing about Farquhar being hanged and all. His dream seemed so real for him, but when he found out it was a dream it was god at the end
The story overall was pretty off course to me. I had to go back alot of times to read it. Its pretty crazy how he could have imagined the whole thing after his death. I just want to know how he can tell such a story if he died? The story wasnt all that confusing, but the only thing that got me was how he made up something aftre he died.
