I was really surprised when Tom saw Gatsby and Daisy were kissing in the beginning of the chapter. I didn't understand whether or not he actually got mad. If he did I did not understand how he reacted towards Gatsby. Also, if he didin't get upset, why not? Is it because he was rich and really didn't love her or what?

This chapter was a little crazy to me, because so many things happen like Wilson finds out or not really that his wife is cheating on him, Tom knows that something is really up between Gatsby and Daisy, and Nick forgets that its his 30th birthday. Also almost in the middle of the chapter or towards the end when Tom is asking Gatsby a million questions about Oxford and his so called bootleging business, Daisy is now moving more towards Tom, because I think that she feels that Gatsby life is really a lie and that he is a bootlegger. Gatsby thinks that he could really make Diasy fall in love with him just because he is richer than Tom. Also I really didint understand the part when the man got killed that part really got me confused. But I think by the end of the book Daisy really is going to stay with Tom because i think thats were her heart is and the thing with Gatsby is just a fling because she hasn't seen him in a long time and he can spoil her with money.

wow, this chapter was really long!
and it happened sooo much. First this whole thing with Gatsby and Daisy, that Gatsby told Tom about his love for daisy. I think it is pretty rude when he says "your wife doesn't love you, she's never loved you. She loves me."(p.130)And i think it's pretty weird that at first daisy doesn't say anything to it. Tom and gatsby don't even ask her what she has to say about that, only at the end of their conversation she gets involved.

The other thing it Myrtle's death. I didn't really get when Daisy killed her. Like they were comeing from New York from what, do they live there?? No doesn't someones sister lives there? And where were they going? where they coming home?

I also like the quote "Her voice is full of money, [gatsby]said suddenly" (p.120), does daisy only love gatsby for his money?? I mean Tom has money, apperently thats the only reason why the married him. She is kind of big thinking and just wants the money and not the men.

this chapter really stood out to me because I noticed one thing:Daisy never really cared about Gatsby. something about the way she has been through out the book has pointed out that although she is beautiful and popular, she lacks substance. She is careless and she was careless with Gatsby's heart. Gatsby should have seen this coming though. Nick even said so in 5, she wasn't was Gatsby remembered her to be. So ignorance plays a big part into everything.
Also, it seemed as though Nick just stood there while all the commotion was going on. I saw his attitude as a reflection of how he is in society. Although he is a part of it, he'd rather not take any role in it because he see's the truth in people although everyone else is oblivious to it.

Well, chapter VII shocked me in the same was as chapter II did! but now not so much Tom, as Daisy. Again, so much happened at the same time, I just couldn't stop wondering...
In the beginning of the chapter we can see that somehing changet in Gatsby's behavior. He is not a party animal any more! "..the lights in his[Gatsby's] house failed to go on one Saturday night." (p. 113). And he fired all his servants replacing them with some people of Wolfsheim, who "..used to run a small hotel." (p. 114). This all was because he "..wanted somebody who wouldn't gossip. [bacause] Daisy comes over quite often- in the afternoons." (p. 114).
Then Daisy invited Nick and Gatsby for a dinner. When both of them arrived to Daisy's house they saw "Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch, like silver idols weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans." (p. 115). Daisy behaved noormally, like in Gatsby's house, I suppose. She laughed at him, looked at him, and after she send Tom for something to drink, she got up, came closer, kissed him, and said "You know I love you." (p. 116) And after that she started showing how good mother she is... There was a tension between everyone, because they "drank in long, greedy swallows." (p. 118). That means they had nothing to say.
"What'll we do with ourselves this afternoon?" "and the day after that, and the next thirty years?" (p. 118) 2 meanings, Daisy wanted to change topic to the future of her and Gatsby.
At the table Daisy was the one who started everything, she told Gatsby she loved him! In front of Tom! Tom was nervous and even changed his mind about going to town. Then alcohol appeared again "I'll get some whiskey." (p. 120) And Gatsby said that he couldn't say anything in this house.. he didn't feel like at home, he was uncomfortable with not being at home and doing everything he wanted to.
Tom behaved wery strange, and Daisy showed him again that he doesn't need to stick his nose into her business...
Also the quote "Her voice is full of money." (p. 120) So Daisy didn't really want love, everything she cared about was money.. We remember her reaction on Gatsby's house, how she "loved it!"...
Tom made a small investigation on Gatsby and he liked what he found out, because he could show Daisy how wrong she was. On their way to NYC Tom stopped at Wilson's and promised him Gatsby's car.
We were at the Valley of Ashes.
And also Myrtle was jealous, because she thought that the young lady who was woth Nick and Tom (Jordan) was Tom's wife.
Daisy tried to "get rid of" everybody else to be with Gatsby, but Tom didn't let her. Instead they went to a hotel...
Then Tom asked something that I was also wondering about "All this "old sport" business. Where'd you pick that up?" (p. 127)
As Tom and Gatsby had their 1st fight, Daisy was fully on Gatsby's side. Daisy also remarked that they're getting old, because they have no reaction to teh music playing outside.
When Tom attacked Gatsby again, he explained, why he can not call himself "an Oxford man".. Daisy was "trying" to stop them but Tom didn't want to give up like that. "What kind of a row are you trying to cause in my house anyhow?" (p. 129)..
And then another shock: "Your wife doesn't love you,".. "She's never loved you. She loves me." (p. 130) then they started arguing about whom does/ did Daisy love... Daisy herself was confused and this time she had her own position... After a hot discussion, Tom finally took out the facts he had about Gatsby, about his past and his source of money.
Now, as Daisy heart everything, and althought Gatsby was trying to deny everything Tom said, she still was afraid that maybe Gatsby is not the same person she thought he was.
Tom told Daisy to go home with Gatsby, assuring that he is not going to make anything to her, because he knows that Tom has all the information about him!
And suddenly Nick "remembered that today's my[his] birthday." (p. 135)
Wilson found out that his wife lived a double life and for that he locked her up in a garage. But she managed to escape and was killed by a yellow car.
On their way bach from town, Tom stopped at Wilson's again because he saw lots of people there... Myrtle wa dead! It looked like it really hit Tom.. on the way home Nick even saw tears on his cheeks. After thinking a little, Tom figured out that Gatsby killed Myrtle...
At home, Tom talked to Daisy and Gatsby was standing autside, watching if something bad happens to Daisy. Ridiculous. And Daisy drove Gatsby's car when the accident happened.
When Nick looked through the window to check on Daisy and Tom, he saw that Tom was holding Daisy's hand and just talked.. "peacefully!" All of it because "He's not thinking about her." (p. 144)

In this chapter Tom really finds out about daisy and gatsby, the little kiss, the comments, the looks and car rides. Therefore tom starts to confront gatsby by asking him about his past and then daisy who was in close to gatsby earlier starts moving closer to tom. another thing about daisy she killed myrtle who was as we all know was toms mistress....even though daisy killed myrtle by running her over, gatsby tells nick that he will take the wrap...just so that tom will not hurt daisy...i thought that this chapter put all secrets aside

Wow, Daisy and Gatsby are pretty bold for kissing right in front of tom. Or either they just dont care about him knowing. Jealous old Tom is still harrasing Gatsby about his past and business ventures. It also seems to me that Daisy may go back to Tom if she finds out that Gatsby dabbles in the bootlegging bussiness.

Chapter 7 was full of DRAMA!!!!
Tom began to notice Daisy and Gatsby's love for each other. Gatsby even tells Tom," Your wife doesnt love you. Shes never loved you. She loves me." WOW!!!!! At this point Tom really doesnt like Gatsby at all. In this chapter Myrtle also got killed. Daisy ran her over on their way back to the West Egg. But Gatsby decided to take the blame for it to prove his love for Daisy.
